Quito - Ecuador
Quito, the metropolitan district and the capital of the Republic of Ecuador, is among the contemporary and colonial, being constantly building every day.
The modern structure blends with the national colonial where residents and foreign visitors always find a place to work, enjoy and remember.
Located in the Andes at 2,800 meters above sea level, Quito occupies a plateau of 12,000 square kilometers. The average temperature ranges between 10 and 25 degrees C (50 and 77 degrees fahrenheit). The climatic contrasts that occur during the course of one day, allow one to enjoy the four seasons of the year, 24 hours a day as if it were an eternal summer. In addition, the city is surrounded by Pichincha, Antizana, Cotopaxi and Cayambe volcanoes that make up the majestic Andean setting.
Quito, filled with meanings that identify and define, occupies the lower slopes or valleys, winds through alleyways and opens wide avenues; zigzags, avoiding hills and ravines. For this physical beauty, its traditions, corners of mysticism and legends force, is considered "Reliquary of Art in America." These were the main features that, in November 1978, Quito was declared by UNESCO "Cultural Heritage".
Built on the ruins of an old native Indian shyris center founded by the Spanish on December 6, 1534, Quito is divided into three areas defined by its intricate geography and characterized by its architectural contrasts and cultural particularities. In the north the modern Quito, where large urban and commercial structures are erected is located; the center meets or former colonial Quito and artistic legacy and offers a charming atmosphere where religious processions and cultural events unfold; in the southern sector can be located nuclei youthful expression, driving new forms of culture and social interaction. Furthermore, Quito is crossed from north to south, in the urban imaginary, a new backbone characterizes it: the "trolley" (Integrated Transport Trolleybus System) that has all changed and agilitado communication system having the district.
The city, in recent years, has been subject to a large urban change that spread north, south, Tumbaco Valleys (to the northeast) and Los Chillos (south east); this has allowed a remarkable economic and population growth that has generated advances in the industry, economy, trade and hospitality, but has also set new actors and new social demands.
